First time buyers 'putting property searches on hold'

Around two-thirds of first time buyers have decided to put their property searches on hold, according to new findings from Abbey.

The company's research has found that a high number of people looking to buy their first home have suspended their hunt due to speculation around house prices and economic uncertainty.

It was also revealed that first time buyers in Wales and the South West were the most affected by such concerns, with around 87 per cent delaying on buying their first home.

Nici Audhlam-Gardiner, Abbey's mortgages director, said: "We know how difficult it is for first time buyers to get on the property ladder, and this is exacerbated by current market uncertainty.

"As has always been the case, we recommend that homebuyers give serious thought to affordability when purchasing a home and not overstretch themselves."

Previous research by Abbey also claimed that parents in the UK have donated around £27 billion to their children to help them fund their house purchases.ADNFCR-1054-ID-18493914-ADNFCR
